ABSTRACT

Many psychologists believe Jean Piaget (1896-1980) was the greatest child psychologist of the twentieth century. When he died, the French newspaper Le Monde ran the news on the front page. In a tribute in The Observer, Oxford University psychologist Peter Bryant wrote ‘child psychology would be a meagre thing without Piaget’. To his colleagues, Bryant said, Piaget was always – ‘le patron’, the boss.
