ABSTRACT

In acknowledging our contributions on the above subject, the editor of Vanity Fair has somewhat distorted our statements; but perhaps we ought not to take it much to heart, since it has given him an opportunity of displaying his talent as a doggrel rhymester, and what is doubtless more important, his poetical effusion and comicalities have probably had the effect of inducing his readers to wade through a technical subject that, but for his facile pen and the glamour he has thrown on the subject, would have been the reverse of fascinating.
