ABSTRACT
In this chapter I would like to address three theoretical issues which are raised by the comparative study of some Romance languages and dialects:
What is the status of subject clitics in Romance? How does this affect the analysis of the Null Subject Parameter?
The Northern Italian Dialects seem to provide a good case of subject clitic doubling. A major difference between subject and object clitic doubling is that the former seems to systematically violate Kayne's generalization, a major property of the latter. Where does this difference stem from?
Recent studies have shown that the Verb Second parameter and the Null Subject parameter interact in an interesting way in some languages. How is this interaction to be expressed?
