ABSTRACT

When measurements have been completed in the field, only half the battle is over. Just as important are the methods for extracting the maximum of archaeological information from them and their presentation in a way that is most comprehensible and acceptable to the archaeologist, and indeed to general readers of their reports and books. The objective is nothing to do with numbers, which are the raw material, but simply to produce the clearest possible archaeological picture.
