ABSTRACT

This brief chapter introduces the basic methods of site preparation and survey procedure that are common to most prospecting techniques. Procedures specific to individual techniques are discussed in the relevant chapters. Rather than direct Imperial equivalents to metric measurements, suitable practical alternatives are given where appropriate. It would have been attractive to recommend a subdivision of 100 ft as the standard Imperial module, but the metric field system is tied to the 1-m module for functional reasons; therefore 3 ft and its multiples and submultiples are the most practical choice.
