Childhood and twentieth-century children’s literature

In literature childhood is an invention, a creation, a state constructed. The literature of childhood properly is either historical fiction, or an aspect of imaginative reconstruction. Childhood itself is a fairytale taking place in a chaos. Childhood is not aware of itself as childhood.
