ABSTRACT

Sexuality can be defined as our physiological capacity for desire, arousal and orgasm. This capacity is exquisitely responsive to social and psychological forces and has its own biological evolution throughout our life cycle (Levine, 1995). Healthy sexuality enhances our psychological well-being and satisfies our reproductive urge. Although not always a linear sequence of events the female sexual response cycle can be simply depicted starting with sexual desire and ending with orgasm (Figure 1). Other theoretical models of sexual response cycles are being considered and researched (Basson 2003) which may better represent the complexity and heterogeneity of women’s sexual responses.
