ABSTRACT

The complete portfolio of adaptation options should be used to reduce vulnerability and increase robustness and resilience to potential climate change impacts. After prioritising the climate change impacts to be addressed (cf Chapter 5), a wide spectrum of adaptation options should be investigated at the appropriate (temporal and spatial) scales. Adaptation can have different forms -e.g. technological, financial, legal and informational (Smit et al. 2000). Past and current adaptation experiences and adaptation initiatives from a variety of regions, sectors or organisations can provide a valuable knowledge base in the assessment of adaptation options. A catalogue of adaptation options can be developed based on literature reviews (e.g. databases, such as the Climate-ADAPT platform) and stakeholder consultation (on experiences and future needs, cf. Chapter 8).
