ABSTRACT

In July of 2010, Lebron James held the sporting world captive as he announced his long-anticipated decision regarding where he would take his basketball talents for the next few seasons of his professional career. When he selected the Miami Heat, he immediately put a lot of pressure on himself by stating he did not come to win a championship, but multiple championships. At the end of his first year in Miami, his team lost in the NBA Finals. The media mocked him; but instead of feeling sorry for himself, he dedicated his efforts over the next summer to taking his game to an even higher level. The next year, the Heat did win the NBA Championship. But instead of being content with this achievement, he worked harder again during the off season, in part because he understood that if his vision of multiple championships was to materialize, he would need to continue to work twice as hard to remain a champion. Mr. James understood the nature of his personal challenge and then worked hard to obtain it. He understood what it would take to reach the summit, and what it would take to stay there.
