ABSTRACT

John McDowell’s Mind and World has already evoked a number of reactions from prominent philosophers, including some enthusiastic ones, some violently negative ones, and various forms of “not getting it.” I am on the enthusiastic side myself, but, nevertheless, I find Mind and World an enormously difficult book-as difficult as it is important-and my primary aim will be to evaluate its contribution, as I see that contribution, and only secondarily to voice a few criticisms.
