ABSTRACT

The Newsome Pyramid Gender and Achievement Working Party

The Newsome High School Gender and Achievement Working Party was formed in December 1993. This followed an Ofsted inspection at the high school where one of the points raised was the fact that there existed a significant difference between the number of boys and the number of girls achieving good GCSE results. At Newsome, as was the case in almost every high school in the country, girls were doing considerably better than boys.
