ABSTRACT
The procedures followed in laying the foundations for ashlar construction remained the same whatever the nature of the structure being erected, and the manner in which the foundations of masonry structures were built also remained unchanged. As already noted, many stone block monuments rested on massive masonry, and when this is all that survives it is no longer possible to work out what form the building above took.
