I feel that this is a very relevant question, since you are considering training. It may be quite some time since you were at school, or have participated in any formal learning. Teaching has probably changed since you were at school. I think my generation were taught through a mixture of fear (known as respect for the teachers) of punishment, and disregard for the way that an individual could learn.
