ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with children who develop mental health problems following the separation or divorce of their parents. Studies have consistently shown that, although not all children in this situation develop such problems, they are more likely to do so than children from stable families (Hodges, 1991). Because of the increased occurrence of divorce in Western societies it is now common for teachers to discover that many of the children in their classes have experienced the divorce of their parents.
