ABSTRACT

The LBK was succeeded by a variety of regional pottery traditions (Bogucki and Grygiel 1993). In eastern Germany and Poland it gave way first to Stichbandkeramik (SBK) by 4700 BC, then around 4400 BC Rössen material appears across eastern France (replacing the Cerny group) and Germany and Lengyel material in Poland. These LBK successors continue until c. 4200-4100 when the Trichtermndbecher (Funnel-Necked Beaker) or TRB emerges across large areas of northern Europe and regional groups such as Michelsberg in the Rhineland and Chasséen in the Paris Basin.
