ABSTRACT

Back in 2008, research from Hewitt Associates found that half of employers felt that they were missing crucial business opportunities as a result of short-comings in managing talent (Woods 2008). Indeed, the concept of talent management has become central to the management of people in many organizations. It would certainly be unusual to read any HR magazine or attend any HR conference without some mention of talent management practice. Given the relatively recent emergence of talent management as a concept, in the late 1990s, it is surprising perhaps that it has already taken such a prominent role in the HRM repertoire.
