ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the role of the supervisor in relation to the emotions of supervisees because these affect and are affected by their work. It also addresses the role of personal issues, personal histories and personal qualities in the work of supervisees, and the supervisory task of facilitating the development of self-understanding and knowledge. Supervision can perform the functions of support and the development of self. This chapter aims to encourage supervisors to give consideration to these aspects of their role.
