ABSTRACT

China is increasingly getting attention from the US and European countries and is looked at with admiration for its spectacular economic growth. 1 However, increasingly it appears that the Chinese economic miracle has come at a very high price as far as environmental problems are concerned. Many report on serious problems of water, soil and air pollution, in some cases also affecting human health. 2 Environmental problems have now led to greater awareness in China itself and, increasingly, legal rules are also employed to fight China’s growing pollution problems. In this respect, liability rules also play an increasingly important role.
