ABSTRACT
Much has been written regarding development on the African continent. A number of theories have been proposed to explain why western-based development models frequently fail. The two main theories, with most development experts assigning the other lesser accepted theories to one of these, are the neo-classical model, supported by the developmental or modernization school, and dependency theory, supported by the dependency school (Anunobi 1994).
