ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book outlines the idea of a new popular education for human personal well-being and for the sustainable development of civil society during a period of significant social change. It shows that the increasing participation of the population in formal and non-formal education and in self-education has led to an increase in civic self-awareness. The book argues that civil society is a sphere of learning in which the knowledge and skills needed for the peaceful interaction of citizens with each other and with the state are acquired and applied. It identifies different educational strategies as Russians from different spheres of life try to overcome their existential and environmental constraints. The book shows that despite the many radical changes that Russia has experienced in its modern history, the relationship of the individual with society and state is still of primary importance.
