ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses upon two key activities within school. The first is the appropriate use of records of achievement and their role with disaffected pupils like truants. The second is the use of work placement schemes. Work placement/experience schemes are organised differently by schools up and down the country. Therefore, later in this chapter we concentrate upon an innovative scheme which originated in Humberside and developed as part of an education business partnership. This scheme is particularly helpful in encouraging pupils to maintain high rates of attendance, regular punctuality and appropriate behaviour as well as keeping up to date with school work.
