ABSTRACT

Many schools have begun to implement measures to prevent and combat truancy based on their own assumptions. Research constantly shows that truancy is a multi-causal phenomenon. While there are similarities between categories of truants, the causes can vary regionally and locally. Schools, too, vary considerably in the extent of their truancy problem: some schools have major difficulties; others only minor problems. It can be extremely helpful, therefore, when schools are able to obtain precise information on the causes of truancy within their own schools.
