ABSTRACT
A large comprehensive was considered by OFSTED to be failing, largely due to poor attendance. Pupil disaffection appeared to start as soon as the primary-age pupils transferred to their neighbourhood comprehensive. The attendance and related issues within the school were deemed to be so daunting that it was decided to adopt a longer-term strategy to overcome the problems. The scheme coincided with the appointment of a new head.
