ABSTRACT

Peers School was formed in 1968 when grammar and secondary modern neighbouring schools on the same site were merged under the city’s programme for comprehensive education. It is a coeducational upper school (Years 9-13) with over 600 pupils. Those who enter at the normal age of transfer come from any of the middle schools in the city; others join the school in Year 11 for one to three years in the sixth form. The school takes its name in tribute to its first chair of governors, who had been chair of the county education committee and was renowned for his first-hand knowledge of and interest in the school.
