ABSTRACT
The last refuge of the fairies is said to be Burlough Castle, a natural rise above the Cuckmere river in East Sussex (Figure 17.1). The site is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument and has featured in one of a series of guided walks organised and led by the authors.
