ABSTRACT

The Greeks believed that the destiny of each individual being was in part predestined by characteristics built into their being at birth – everything, they believed, has within it the blueprint of its perfect form – a form which, given the perfect environment, will unfurl itself over the life span of that thing. Every seed contains the blueprint for a tree which will emerge from within it and unfurl its full dimensions over time, if given good soil, light and regular watering. Every baby has within it the blueprint for the growth of the perfect adult, given the right environment, the right physical and mental stimulation, with intellectual and moral education. A perfect outcome (near impossible to achieve since it requires perfect environmental conditions) would be the complete fulfilment of all the individual’s various potentials by the time of their death.
