ABSTRACT

The establishment of the World Wide Web in the last few years marks a very important development in the history of human communication: as significant as the printing press. However, periodic explosions of technological development have resulted in regular claims about ‘revolution’ in the primary curriculum. Yet at the time of writing it was still not uncommon to see some schools sharing the old ‘BBC’ personal computers or to see more advanced computers in classrooms rarely being used. This chapter is underpinned by the assumption that IT hardware in schools should always be in use.
