As we learnt in the stress section, our thoughts can infl uence the way we feel and behave in certain situations. These thoughts are automatic in that they go through our minds without us really paying attention to them. They refl ect ideas or opinions that we have taken on board from a variety of

infl uential sources, such as friends, family or the media. These can have a big impact on how we feel about the fl ushes and how well we feel able to cope with them.
