ABSTRACT

Museum professionals are certainly aware that as we creep toward the twenty-first century, people, particularly children, are increasingly media savvy. But I wonder if curators have fully grappled with the future consequences for their institutions. As today's tots will be tomorrow's visitors, it's worth a quick assessment of the possible impact of growing up in an electronic era on historical sensibilities. Experiences will of course differ according to country, class, race, culture and gender, so I will keep my examples close to home.
