ABSTRACT

This section is made up of a series of case studies based on actual events, illustrating a variety of scenarios and possible outcomes. Two cases are described in detail to show the reality of working through capability procedures, in both cases from the headteacher’s point of view. Other cases are dealt with much more briefly and from different perspectives. They are usually accompanied by commentaries or questions aimed at exploring how cases could have taken a different direction if, for example, the new procedures and expectations for dealing with lack of capability had been in operation or the culture of the particular school and management style of its leaders had been different.
