ABSTRACT

These are crimes which are visible from the start. They are committed in the family home, in the street in front of the children, at the home of relatives, often on significant occasions: birthdays, contact visits after divorce, Christmas, New Year festivals, or at the time of other ceremonies which involve family reunions such as Eid, the Muslim celebration which marks the end of Ramadan. In our experience the killing is rarely premeditated: although there may have been previous violence and threats of killing, we have encountered only a few cases where there were previous attempts at homicide.
