ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I want to address a particular kind of city that lies between the models of the 1970s and the 1990s: the city to be understood not in relation to one, but rather two or more societies, by which, in this context, I refer to territorially based ‘nation states’. In the process my aim is to explore the relevance of some of the theoretical issues and frameworks discussed in the three previous chapters.
