ABSTRACT

In taking on the task of conducting a group, a therapist assumes the dual responsibility of saying and doing (a) that which will help the group to become, and remain for as much of the time as possible, a positive medium for help; and (b) that which will help each person to benefit from being in the group. Internal think-work —listening, observing, and trying to make sense of what one sees and hears-is a necessary part of this task.
