ABSTRACT

Lifelong learning is a key educational concept that has gained renewed topicality. The concept is old and has been discussed before.1 In discussions of the concept of lifelong learning two dimensions have been distinguished (Rubenson 1996). One deals with learning as a process that covers an entire lifetime-from the cradle to the grave. The other dimension-life-broad learning-refers to the attitude that learning should not comprise a narrow sector of life, but rather life to its full extent. The meanings of these concepts are the theme of this chapter.
