ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses surface-to-surface missiles alongside full details of size, weight and operational range. They are: Avibras SS-70; Avibras SS-300; CPMIEC Model M; Arospatiale Hades; Arospatiale Pluton; Ching Feng; FROG-3; FROG-5; FROG-7; SS-1C Scud-B; SS-12'scaleboard; SS-21 Scarab; SS-23 Spider; Douglas MGR-1B Honest John; Martin-Marietta MGM-31B Pershing II; Vought MGM-52C Lance; MGM-52C Lance. FROG-7: introduced in 1965, this is the last of a series of Free Rocket over Ground (FROG) weapons, and is being replaced by the longer-ranged and more accurate SS-2. SS-23: introduced in 1980, this is the Soviet replacement for the Scud series, and offers significantly reduced time into action as well as better range and CEP. Ching Feng: this Taiwanese battlefield system appears to be based conceptionaly on the US Lance, though the fins are somewhat smaller and a radar guidance system is used. SS-1C Scud-B: introduced in 1964, this is an altogether more capable weapon.
