ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with how tourists and sex workers come to terms with their respective involvements as clients and providers of sex services. As discussed by Manderson (1992) and Ryan and Martin (2001) in their respective papers, such discussions of sex work involve the authors, either as writers and/or interpreters of evidence. As mentioned in the Preface, the primary research upon which this book has been based has proven to be one where preconceptions have been challenged, and whereby individual stories represent many different experiences. Accordingly, this chapter commences with an examination of the issues researchers face when dealing with these subjects. Accordingly, the first person is used to locate and construct the text.
