ABSTRACT

No resource is more fundamental than water to the health and security of people and the environment. Failure to act risks exposing organisations to water scarcity issues, which could lead to dramatically increased costs, or even bring operations to a standstill. Currently, organisations waste a huge amount of water. The subject is often even further below the horizon of management boards than energy saving. Yet economical use of water can result in huge financial, energy and carbon savings, for example, in reduced pumping costs. Only one in seven senior executives of large companies in the UK, USA, China, South Korea and Brazil had set water reduction targets or publicly reported on water performance according to a recent survey. 1
