ABSTRACT
The largest and most well known of the American theatrical organizations is Broadway (often abbreviated “Bway” or “B’way”). Broadway is a high-budget theatrical machine located in the theatre district of New York City that produces many new works each year. It is widely considered, along with the West End in London, to be the top level of commercial theatre in the English-speaking world. Productions within Broadway theatres are eligible for Tony Awards-considered to be one of the most prestigious awards in the American theatrical profession. At the time of publication, there are 39 Broadway theatres in existence.
