ABSTRACT

From the earliest stage of development we expend much of our energies learning to adapt to change and cope with its many different contexts. Our quality of life is often directly contingent on the extent to which we succeed in accomplishing this often challenging task. Much of the anxiety registered in the discussion of young people’s attitudes stems from an anxiety towards change now and in the future and its attendant uncertainty. What will we be doing in ten years time? How will we fit into society? What skills will we need to function successfully in the world of the future? The future is a volatile factor in our lives because it represents the unknown. We cannot be certain what it will hold for us.
