ABSTRACT

The aims and purposes of this chapter are to examine the ‘process of research’ in the context of education. I will explore the nature and purposes of educational research, and the contemporary debates surrounding what are and what are not appropriate methods and approaches, alongside a brief examination of the logistics and practicalities of undertaking a research project. In the space available this chapter cannot provide a guide to every research method, nor can it cover statistical analyses. However, there is currently a wealth of literature which deals with step-by-step approaches to research methods, and references to useful texts will be made throughout.
