ABSTRACT

The reader will, we hope, find these assertions substantiated in the following pages. A book on investigative journalism is needed because, although everyone knows what investigative journalism is, explanations of it and about it are so various. Some revile the phenomenon and others claim that it saves us; some tell us that it is a fine tradition now being strangled, while others assure us that, because of new technology, its greatest days are coming. It is the subject of debate and is becoming a subject of study.
