ABSTRACT
At this point in the study we are in a position to discuss the empirical effects of the
interaction between new information and communication technology and the knowledge-
intensive business service industry. The general outcome of such an interaction, that is
the development of a veritable knowledge-based economy, has already been elaborated
and illustrated in previous chapters (in particular Chapters 2 and 8). New information
technology affects both the operational conditions of information – from access to
process – and the characteristics of the information itself – its separability and tradeability.
Taken together this means structural change, i.e. the creation of a knowledge economy
