ABSTRACT

Metaphysical historicism has a very long history extending back almost three millennia. This tradition has attracted a great deal of attention from those anxious about the future as well as those wanting to understand the meaning of life. It has sufficient intellectual sophistication to be taken seriously by the educated public, and just enough ‘scientific’ veneer to receive support from some ‘experts’. Yet this tradition has been a complete, if spectacular, failure. By being unable to analyse the real dynamic process of human society, it has failed to formulate valid laws of history or to make any scientific predictions about the future.
