ABSTRACT

To fully understand the past and to make sensible predictions about the future we need to isolate the laws of history. These laws, as we saw in Chapter 7, operate at three different levels. The most basic of these, the primary laws of history or the fundamental laws of societal dynamics, will be examined in this chapter. These primary laws are the building blocks for the discussion of the secondary, or historical, laws in Chapter 9, and of the tertiary, or institutional, laws in Chapter 10.
