ABSTRACT
Plato’s artful and intentionally basic dramatisation of the attempt to make progress in a philosophical question by interpreting a text, which occurs in the middle section of the Protagoras (338e-347a), is also very important for our theme. It is shown how two extraordinarily competent interpreters, namely Protagoras and Socrates, arrive at opposite conclusions in the interpretation of the same poem.
