ABSTRACT
Irony is perhaps Plato’s most famous stylistic technique. The urbane lightness, elegance and nuancing of his ironic tone are without equal in the whole of world-literature, which is itself not lacking in irony, and are an inexhaustible source of delight for the educated reader.
