Rorschach test The most famous PROTECTIVE TECHNIQUE of all, beloved of cartoonists and comedians. It consists of ten standardized inkblots developed by a Swiss psychiatrist called Hermann Rorschach in the early part of the twentieth century. The subject’s responses to the inkblots are analysed by the tester in the light of certain categories that have also been standardized over the years. No diagnosis of someone’s PERSONALITY should ever be made solely on the basis of this (or any other) TEST, but many psychologists regard it as a useful first step.
