ABSTRACT
Each local authority has a duty to investigate and ‘make inquiries’ in relation to children within its area where:
it is informed that a child who lives or is found within its area is subject to an emergency protection order or is in police protection;
it has reasonable cause to suspect that a child who lives or is found within its area is suffering, or likely to suffer significant harm.
