ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the different types of fraud based on themes, namely Auction frauds, 419 frauds, Romance frauds, and Phishing. The first issue to consider is how the Cybercrime Convention deals with fraud. Auction frauds take place within an online auction environment. A typical 419 scam involves a person pretending to be an official who needs assistance to move money that he/she claims is rightfully his/her out of a country to avoid a corrupt official. Romance frauds have been resurgence in recent years where people have been targeted through romance websites. Clough, J. suggests that allied to phishing is the phenomenon of pharming which is where a fake website is created instead of fake emails. Pharming is quite a sophisticated fraud because it occurs where a person believes they are trying to reach a legitimate site but diverted to a rogue site.
