In Ecological Imperialism: The Biological Expansion of Europe, 900-1900 (1986), Alfred Crosby posed the question-“why were Europeans so successful in settling the temperate parts of the Americas, Australia and New Zealand?” Not only had they successfully established themselves, but in many instances European migrants, culture and landscape had almost completely replaced their indigenous counterparts (Crosby 1986:2-5).
